Open a TicketA very common question, especially with typos, is whether the domain name can be changed after the registration process has been completed.
From a technical and administrative point of view, a domain name cannot be changed once it has been registered. Central registry systems (such as ROTLD for .ro or ICANN for .com, .net) treat each domain name as a unique entity and definitive at the time the booking invoice was generated.
When you press the checkout button and payment is confirmed, the TicketHelp system instantly communicates with the domain registrar to reserve that "address" on your behalf. From that moment:
The registration fee is collected by the registry and is non-refundable.
The domain is blocked in your name for the chosen period (minimum 1 year).
Registries do not provide an "Edit" or "Rename" function for domain names.
If you have realized that the domain contains a mistake or is simply no longer the name you want, the only available solutions are:
Registering a new domain: You must initiate a new order with the correct name and pay the registration fee for it.
Wrong domain abandonment: You don't need to do anything special; the old domain will remain active until the expiration date, at which point you can let it automatically delete by not paying the renewal bill.
Redirect (optional): If the mistake is minor, you can keep both domains and set a redirect from the wrong one to the right one, so you don't lose any visitors who might make the same typo.
To avoid additional costs, we recommend:
Double check: Before adding the domain to the basket, check the letters, hyphens and extension (.ro vs .com).
Copy-Paste: If you have the domain name written in a document, use copy-paste instead of typing it manually.
Check in cart: Double-check the domain name in the order summary before entering your card details.
Note that, although you cannot change the name of the domain (eg: from sit-ul-meu.ro to site-ul-meu.ro), you can always modify the data of the owner (address, e-mail, phone), according to our guide on "Modification of contact data".
