Can I use the hosting package for another domain?

24 0 0

If you decided to ditch an old site and start a new project, or if you simply chose a better domain name, the good news is that you don't need to buy a new hosting package. You can reuse the existing service for your new domain.

There are two main ways you can do this, depending on your package and what you want to achieve:

1. Change of Main Domain (Base Domain)

This option is ideal if you want to completely replace the old domain with the new one in your hosting account.

  • How to do it: This change is usually done upon request by our technical support team, or directly from the admin panel if the platform allows it.

  • What it involves: All files in the main folder (public_html) will now be associated with the new domain.

  • Caution: You will need to manually update the links in the site database (eg in WordPress) for the new site to work correctly under the new name.

2. Use as an Addon Domain

If your hosting package allows multiple domains (Premium, Business or Reseller packages), you can keep the old domain active and add the new domain as a completely separate site.

  • How to do it: Add the domain from the "Addon Domains" section of cPanel or DirectAdmin.

  • Advantage: You can run both sites simultaneously on the same subscription, in separate folders.

3. Redirection (Redirect)

If you already have content on the old domain and don't want to lose visitors or SEO authority, you can set a 301 Redirect.

  • Thus, any visitor accessing old-domain.ro will be automatically sent to new-domain.ro.

4. Important steps to follow:

Regardless of which method you choose, don't forget:

  1. Nameservers: The new domain must be directed to the TicketHelp nameservers (eg: ns1.tickethelp.ro, ns2.tickethelp.ro).

  2. Emails: If you change your primary domain, you will need to recreate your email addresses on the new domain (ex: contact@domeniunou.ro).

  3. SSL certificate: After adding the new domain, make sure to enable the free SSL certificate (Let's Encrypt) in the control panel to make the site secure (HTTPS).
