For what period can domains be registered?

24 0 0

When you purchase a domain name, you don't buy it outright, but "rent" the right to use it for a certain period of time. Depending on the chosen extension (.ro, .com, .eu, etc.), registration and renewal periods may vary.

1. International domains (.com, .net, .org, .info)

These extensions offer the most flexibility in contract duration:

  • Minimum period: 1 year.

  • Maximum period: 10 years.

  • Advantage: You can choose to pay in advance for several years to protect yourself against possible central ledger price increases and avoid the risk of forgetting your annual renewal.

2. European domains (.eu)

The rules for the .eu extension are somewhat stricter:

  • Registration period: They can be registered, as a rule, for periods of 1 year.

  • Renewal: It is done annually and the process is automated through the TicketHelp platform.

3. National domains (.ro)

The system for Romanian domains has changed in recent years, moving from a "lifetime fee" to an annual maintenance system:

  • Minimum period: 1 year.

  • Maximum period: 10 years.

  • Important: You can choose any period between 1 and 10 years. After the chosen period expires, you will have to pay a new maintenance fee to keep the right of use.

4. Why record over a longer period?

Although most customers choose annual renewal, registering for 2-5 or even 10 years has clear advantages:

  • Security: You eliminate the risk of the domain expiring by mistake (for example, if you are on vacation or the notification email ends up in Spam).

  • SEO (Search Engine Optimization): Search engines, such as Google, consider domains registered for long periods to be more "trustworthy" and represent stable businesses.

  • Financial predictability: You lock in your current domain cost, avoiding price fluctuations or exchange rate fluctuations.

5. Renewal notices at TicketHelp

Regardless of the chosen period, the TicketHelp team will notify you in time:

  • You receive automated emails 30, 15, 7 and 1 day before the expiration date.

  • You can always check the exact expiration date in Customer Area -> Domains.
