Does changing nameservers incur additional costs?

24 0 0

When you decide to change your hosting provider or use external services (such as Cloudflare), it is necessary to update your domain's nameservers (NS). A legitimate question is whether this technical operation involves any fee.

1. The short answer: NO

Changing nameservers for a domain you already own is completely free. Regardless of the domain extension (.ro, .com, .eu etc.), domain registrars and providers do not charge fees for updating these records DNS.

2. Why is it free?

Nameservers are considered an integral part of standard domain administration. The ability to point the domain to any hosting server is a right of the holder, and the TicketHelp platform gives you direct access to the control panel to make these changes whenever you need.

3. When, however, might indirect costs arise?

While the change itself costs nothing, there are a few related situations to be aware of:

  • Domain maintenance: The domain must be in the validity period (not expired). Renewal of an expired domain incurs fees.

  • Premium DNS Services: If you choose to use advanced DNS services (Managed DNS) from third parties, those providers may charge monthly subscriptions, but this is an optional choice.

  • Setup by a technician: If you ask a web design firm or system administrator to do these settings for you, they may charge for their time.

4. How can you make the change yourself (Free)?

To avoid any support costs, you can make the change quickly from your account:

  1. Go to Customer Area TicketHelp.

  2. Go to Domains -> My Domains.

  3. Select the domain and choose Nameservers from the menu.

  4. Enter the new values and save.

5. Beware of Propagation

Although it is free, note that the process is not instantaneous. DNS propagation (the time when new settings spread across the Internet) can take up to 24-48 hours, during which time the site may be temporarily unavailable.
