Open a TicketYes, a domain name can be transferred to another natural or legal person at any time. This process is similar to selling an asset and involves updating the official ownership data in the domain registry.
It is important not to confuse these two terms:
Administrative Transfer: You move the domain from one provider to another (eg from another registrar to TicketHelp), but the owner remains the same.
Change of Holder (Trade): The domain remains (usually) with the same provider, but the identification data of the owner changes (eg from Person A to Person B).
For the extension .ro, the process is strictly regulated by ROTLD and is called "Transfer of right of use":
Agreement of parties: Both the current holder (transferor) and the future holder (transferee) must agree.
Transfer key generation: The current owner requests from the rotld.ro website an authorization key for the transfer of rights.
Paying the fee: ROTLD charges a fee for this service, which usually includes extending the domain for a period of time (5 or 10 years, according to the new regulations).
Completion: After processing documents or online confirmations, the domain is transferred to the account of the new owner.
For gTLD domains, the process is simpler and is often done directly from the TicketHelp account:
Updating the contact data (Registrant) in the administration panel.
Caution: According to ICANN rules, after changing the owner's email or name, the domain may enter a period of lock on transfer (Lock) for 60 days, during which time it cannot be moved to another provider.
Selling a business: When the website and brand is bought by someone else.
Rebranding or change of legal form: When you transfer the domain from the individual to the newly established company.
Succession: If the current holder can no longer administer the domain.
Before initiating an ownership transfer, ensure that:
All outstanding domain or hosting invoices are paid.
