What are Addon Domains?

24 0 0

If you have a web hosting package that allows you to host multiple sites, you will come across the term "Addon Domain". This functionality allows you to manage multiple independent websites using a single control panel and hosting account.

1. How does an Addon Domain work?

An added domain is a completely new domain name (for example, site-ul-meu-doi.ro) that is stored in a separate directory from your main hosting account.

  • Although they share the hosting package resources (disk space, traffic, CPU), to visitors, the two sites appear completely separate and independent.

2. Difference between Main Domain and Addon Domain

  • Main Domain: It is the one chosen when creating the hosting account. Its files are usually in the public_html folder.

  • Addon Domain: It is an additional domain. Its files are in a specific folder (automatically or manually created), for example public_html/site-ul-meu-doi.ro.

3. Advantages of using added domains

  • Economy: You don't have to pay for separate hosting packages for each small site you own.

  • Centralized management: Manage files, databases and email addresses for all domains from a single account (cPanel/DirectAdmin).

  • Custom email: You can create independent email addresses for the added domain (eg: contact@site-ul-meu-doi.ro).

4. Conditions to add a domain

To use this feature on the TicketHelp platform, you must:

  1. Do you have a compatible package: Check if your hosting plan supports more than one domain (e.g. Premium or Business packages).

  2. Registering domain: You must own the right to use the domain name you want to add.

  3. Configure DNS: The added domain must use the same nameservers as the main domain.

5. Beware of resources!

Since all added domains use the resources of the same hosting package, if one site becomes very popular and consumes a lot of memory or CPU, it can also slow down other sites in that account.
