What does moving a domain mean? (Transfer vs. Migration)

24 0 0

In web terminology, "moving a domain" can be confusing because it can refer to two completely different actions: administrative transfer of the name or moving the site to another server. Here is the detailed explanation for each scenario.

1. Domain Transfer (Change of Registrar)

This is the administrative action by which you move domain management from a company (for example, GoDaddy or another local provider) to TicketHelp.

  • What's changing: Only where you pay your domain name renewal bill.

  • What is needed: EPP code (Auth-Code) and domain unlocking at the old registrar.

  • Important: Domain transfer does not also automatically move site files or emails.

2. Moving Hosting (Site Migration)

This is about moving the physical site content (files, databases, images) and email accounts from the old server to the TicketHelp servers.

  • What's changing: Where your site "lives".

  • How to: Copy the data and then update the domain's Nameservers (DNS) to point to the new location.

3. Transfer of Ownership (Transfer of Right)

Sometimes moving means changing the legal owner of the domain (from one person/company to another). This process is called "Trade" or "Change Holder" and usually involves the signing of documents or email confirmation by both parties.

4. Why move your domain to TicketHelp?

  • Consolidation: You have all services (domain + hosting + SSL certificates) in one place.

  • Savings: You can benefit from automatic domain extension for one year at the time of transfer (for gTLD extensions).

  • Support: Our team can assist you in the data migration process for free if you purchase a hosting package.
